The blessing of God by Waterloo

The blessing of God by Waterloo is a satire of Multatuli on the occasion of the memory celebrations in 1865 for the Battle of Waterloo. Background and content

The blessing of God by Waterloo is a response to the flood of nationalist poems and brochures that appeared in 1865 following the commemoration of the final defeat of Napoleon at Waterloo in 1815. In these editions, God and King William II are thanked in full and famous. Multatuli puts the dragon with the crowded tone in these writings by praising the praise even further and God to thank the few rules for his help. In addition to the view of Multatuli on religion, this impression was expressed by his dislike about "the bluffly fury, making use of heroism and further unparalleled qualities of our ancestors" as he himself later noted.
