Emmanuel Akitani-Bob


Emmanuel Akitani-Bob, actual name Bob Emmanuel Akakpovi, (Aného, ​​July 18, 1930) is a Togolean statesman.

Akitani-Bob followed education in France. From 1951 to 1959 he studied mathematics at the University of Paris and at the University of Poitiers. In 1959 he graduated. Since then, he worked as a graduate engineer for various oil companies, such as BP. From 1961 to 1969 he was deputy director, later director of state mining and geology society in Togo. After that he held several high positions at the mining department.

At age, he was politically active. From 1950 until 1956 he was a member of the student union Jeune Togo (Young Togo) and the Federation of North African and French Students (FEANF). From 1957 to 1958 he fulfilled the function of chairman of Jeune Togo. In the 1960s he was a member of Unité Togolaise, a political party.

In 2000, Akitani-Bob directed the Party of Forces of Change (PFC). In 2003 he was presidential candidate at the elections. However, these were won by Gnassingbé Eyadéma, who has been sailing across Togo since 1967.

Following the death of President Eyadéma on February 5, 2005, elections were issued. Akitani-Bob was one of the most important opposition candidates who recorded Faure Eyadéma (Faure Gnassingbé), son of President Eyadéma. However, the presidential elections were won by Faure Eyadéma on April 26, 2005. On April 27, 2005, Akitani-Bob, who did not trust the election, called out as president of Togo.
