Gerold of Cologne


Gerold of Cologne (Cologne, ... - 1241) was a pilgrim commemorated as a martyr of the Catholic Church.

Originally from Germany, he devoted his life to pilgrimage to the holy places of devotion. He went to Rome following the famous Francigena Street and the San Giacomo di Compostela Sanctuary.

He was killed while crossing the Alps was attacked by some bandits who abandoned his body, which was collected by some devout people who took him to Cremona where he was buried with all honors.
