Pierre Ketel

Pierre Ketel (Diever, baptized September 10, 1704 - 1737) was a Dutch schulte. Life and work

Ketel is a son of Diever Richard Ketel and Annechijen Tingen. When his father died before March 1713 he was 8 years old. He was appointed by Eigenerfden and Knightship of Drenthe as his successor as Diever's scholar. Due to his minority, his uncle Lambert Wijnties was appointed as a wanderer (deputy) until 1724. From that time until 1737, the year of his death, Ketel acted independently as a die of Diever. Diever's scholarship was a banner chula, ie headquarters for the Deverdering game.

Ketel lived in Diever in the schultehuis, which was built in 1604 by his ancestor Berend Ketel, also hidden there. The Schulte House was actually used as a house by six members of the Ketel family. The building is now a national monument owned by Het Drentse Landschap and forms the accommodation of the West-Drenthe Archaeological Center.
