Bernhard Grzimek

In the sixties and seventies he was regularly featured on television as one of the most popular zoologists of West Germany.

Grzimek was a veterinarian for a long time, later he became a long-term animal director in Frankfurt am Main, successful animal and author films and re-publisher of many famous books about animals, and of the animal welfare magazine mentioned in the Netherlands, better known as the life the animals.

From 1970 to 1973, Grzimek was also active as nature protector on behalf of the German government. In 1975 he founded together with Horst Stern and nineteen other environmentalists the Bund für Umwelt and Naturschutz Deutschland (abbreviated BUND). He was also chairman of the Zoological Society of Frankfurt am Main until his death.

Grzimek won an Oscar for his documentary Serengeti Shall Not Die at the 32nd Oscar Award in 1960. Bernhard Grzimek passed away at the age of 77.
