Chatham-eilandkaka

The Chatham Island Cookie (Nestor Sp) is an extinct species believed to belong to the same genus as the kaka (Nestor meridionalis), Strigopidae family, a small group of native parrot species in New Zealand. Distribution and habitat

The Chatham Island Kaka was a forest living bird that was about as large as the subspecies Nestor meridionalis septentrionalis of the kaka, which lives on the northern island. The species only occurred on the Chatham Islands and had no natural enemies there. Such island-living birds were often bad kites. Extinct

The bird is only known for some young fossil bones and has no scientific name. The Chatham Island Kaka died before the arrival of European settlers, probably around 1550 when the first Polynesian people arrived.
