Dan III of Valacchia (... - 1460), son of Dan II of Valacchia of the race of the Dăneştii, was the voivode of Valacchia from 1457 to 1460. Contended the throne of Valacchia to Vlad l'Impalatore.

In 1457 Dan named Voivode in the orthodox cathedral of Braşov, formally forcibly empowering the Emperor and taking a court in a camp on Timpa hill near the city. In 1458 the controversy between Dăneşti and Drăculeşti was interrupted by mediations by Mihály Szilágyi, Hungarian governor of Transylvania. The conflict resumed in 1459: Dan was forced to flee, while Vlad, after devastating the suburbs of Braşov, impaled several opponents of the enemy on Timpa hill. In 1460 Dan conquered the fortresses of Braşov and Făgăraş, then faced the Impalator on the Rucăr field.

Defeated by Vlad III's army, Dan III was forced to dig his tomb and then be decapitated, he wants the legend, by Dracula in person. Bibliografiamodifica wikitesto
