The place at Staines where the Colne enters the Thames
The Colne is a tributary of the Thames and runs along the west side of London. The river runs through, among others, Watford, Staines, Uxbridge and West Drayton.
The Colne flows mainly through Hertfordshire and forms the boundary between Buckinghamshire and Hillingdon district, the westernmost borough of Greater London.
The source of the Colne is at the village of North Mymms in Hertfordshire, northwest of London. From here the river goes to Watford and onwards to Uxbridge. It then runs parallel to the Grand Union Canal. The Colne flows into the Thames at the lock of Penton Hook Lock in Laleham (Surrey), near Staines.
The Frays is a Colne side branch that separates from Uxbridge from the Colne and adds to the Colne at West Drayton again. Some other Colne tributaries are the Ver, the Colne Brook, the Wraysbury (which adds to Staines again at the Colne) and the Duke or Northumberland River, actually a 16th century canal.
Places named after the river are London Colney, Colney Heath and Colney Street in Hertfordshire. Colnbrook in Berkshire is named after the tributary Colne Brook. 51 ° 25 '59 "NB, 0 ° 30' 55" WL
