FESTIP (Future European Space Transportation Investigations Program) was a program launched by the European Space Agency (ESA) in the mid-nineties (15 February 1994) to prepare Europe for the development of a next generation of launchers next to ' Ariane 5. The central motivation was to reduce operating costs by introducing reusable technology like the Space Shuttle. Like most ESA programs on space transport systems, the stated objectives for the program were very optimistic and well beyond any possibility of implementation (see, for example, Hermes and Sänger cases). The program, like the next FLPP, served primarily to fund the European aerospace sector.
