Giorgio Mele


Giorgio Mele (Rome, March 3, 1953) is an Italian politician.

In 1970 he joined the Italian Communist Youth Federation and then to the Italian Communist Party, where he held various positions both in the Roman organization and in the national direction. In 1989 he was brought up with Ingrao and Tortorella's motion against the dissolution of the Pci proposed by Achille Occhetto.

From 1993 he became national coordinator of the left minority area in the PDS and later in the Left Democrats until 2001. Senator of the Republic in the XIII and XV legislatures in 2007 does not join the Democratic Party and joins the Democratic Left Group for European Socialism until the end of the Second Prodi government's experience. After a brief experience in the Left and Freedom, it joins the Federation of the Left.
