North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences

The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences is a natural history museum. It is located on 11 West Jones Street in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina.

The museum is part of the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources and gives an overview of the natural environment of the state. There are eight eel skeletons of whales, but also an exhibition of different hummingbirds. There are a number of aquariums and terraria with live animals such as snakes and turtles. The geological history of the state also includes a number of fossils ranging from the carnivore Acrocanthosaurus dinosaur and a Tyrannosaurus rex skull. The tertiary also deals with a skeleton of a fountain. Much has been done to satisfy the young visitor with all kinds of interactive exhibits. Access is free.

The museum is affiliated with the American Institute of Biological Sciences (AIBS), a scientific association that focuses on promoting biological research and education in the United States. The museum is also a member of the Natural Science Collections Alliance, an American nonprofit organization focusing on the support of scientific collections, human resources, institutes that house the collections and their research activities.
