Willem Paschen (Enschede, 1764 - Winterswijk, 1842), was a richter and last dropper of the glory of Bredevoort who has gained international recognition because of his involvement in the execution of the Freel van Dorth in 1799. Lifecycle

Willem Paschen drove from Bredevoort and a mediated merchant and innkeeper in Winterswijk since 1789. He was married to Judith Hofkes, daughter of Jan Hofkes, and was related to the families Walien and Willink. Paschen has played a part in the Orange Revolution in the Achterhoek of 1799 on the part of the patriotic French party, especially in the process against the Freule van Dorth. Paschen gave the names of twenty talented citizens to the Frenchman Girot, who immediately took these citizens out of their homes and put them under arrest. The events did not affect his reappointment in 1802. Paschen was the last drool of Bredevoort, after 1818, mayors now ruled the town. The first mayor was Arnoldus Florentinus Roelvink.
