Berbice

Berbice is a Guyana region, sometimes known as the "ancient county". The Berbice River passes you through. It is a former Dutch colony, and there are still people who speak Dutch Creole language, based on the lexicon and grammar of the African language ijo. History colonialemodifica wikitesto

Berbice was colonized in 1627 by Abraham van Peere. A few years after the current Suriname area was occupied by Lord Willoughby and Lawrence Hyde under the approval of King Charles II.

In November 1712 Berbice was briefly occupied by the French of Baron de Mouans. From February 27, 1781 to February 1782, British forces occupied Demerara, Essequibo and Berbice (administered by Barbados). In 1784 the area returned to the Dutch.

On April 22, 1796, the British occupied the territory. On March 27, 1802, Berbice was recovered from the Batava Republic. In 1803, the British resumed the territory again, and in 1814 officially became a British colony, and was sold by the Dutch on November 20, 1815.
