Bummolo

The bummulo or bummulu in Sicilian language is a terracotta container used in Sicily to keep water always fresh even during the summer.

The use of the bummole is based on known behavior of the liquids, which pass through the gaseous state (evaporation) by heat absorption. The material with which the bummole is constructed allows it to continuously breathe a certain amount of water which, in contact with the warm air of the environment, becomes vapor. The resulting heat absorption takes place near the surface of the container, which results in a lowering of the temperature, sufficient to keep the liquid always fresh, even if exposed to the sun.

It has very ancient origins. We have found copies from the 12th century. Notemodify wikitesto
