Dutch padoek

Dutch padoek: three parts glued

African padoek is wood of Pterocarpus soyauxii. The tree can reach up to 50 meters and get a crown of about 30 meters. Other typical features are the red dust that separates the bark and the narrow root roots of about 6 cm.

The wood is in Europe the best-known and most popular type of padoek, but there are also other species (Andaman and Indian padoek).

The Dutch woodpecker hardwood is bright orange red, also known as coral red, hence the French name corail. When exposed to light, this color changes rapidly to pale reddish brown and, eventually, to black-brown. Padoek is a very stable wood that does not work and hardly deforms.
