Saxo-Frisia (magazine)

Saxo-Frisia was a magazine published twice since 1939 by Van Gorcum in Assen. The magazine was founded by J.M.N. Kapteyn, Professor of Old Testamentism at the University of Groningen. The magazine's aim was to promote knowledge about the culture, literature, history and landscapes of the Frisian and Saxon regions in the Netherlands. The magazine had no political agenda. In addition to the staff of the Lower Saxon Institute of Groninger University, various dialectologists and (amateur) historians provided contributions to the magazine. Kapteyn also founded the Saxo-Frisia Foundation in 1941. This foundation, unlike the magazine, had a clear political goal, as was apparent from the reason Captain held at the founding meeting: Frisians, Saxony: two German-German trials. The foundation published its own magazine: The Noorder Land. After the founding of the foundation, Saxo-Frisia's edition became increasingly clear, until it finally disappeared in 1944.
