Sjoel Brielle

Former synagogue of Brielle

The Sjoel Brielle, a synagogue from 1871, is the only remaining Jewish prayer house in the Voorne-Putten region, Rozenburg and Goeree-Overflakkee. Sjoel is the Yiddish name of a synagogue.

Since the Second World War, the synagogue has no longer been used as such. After 1945, the property was bought by a contractor who made a warehouse. In 1999, the Foundation Conservation of the former Synagogue Brielle was established, which, on the initiative of Egbert Rietveld, collected funds to buy and restore the property. On 11 September 2005, on the occasion of Open Monument Day, the building was reopened with great interest and in the presence of rabbi Avraham Soetendorp. The building, under the guidance of architect Jan Walraad, has been restored and now officially surnames Sjoel Brielle. It has become a place for memory, meeting and culture. Exhibitions, concerts, weddings and funerals are possible in the property. Externe link
