Stendhal (train)

The Stendhal is an international night train between Paris and Italy. The train is named after Marie-Henri Beyle, a poet from Grenoble who wrote under the pseudonym Stendhal. EuroCity

The Stendhal was included on 31 May 1987 as one of the eight night trains in the EuroCity grid for the Paris - (Mont Cenis) - Turin - Milan route. On May 22, 1993, the Stendhal was last driven as EuroCity. EuroNight

Because from 1993 the name EuroCity is only reserved for day trains, the Stendhal is housed in the then started EuroNight network. The operation of the train came in 1995 in the hands of Artesia, a subsidiary of the FS and SNCF, which was set up to operate the train service between France and Italy. Since 11 December 2011, the operation of the train has been transferred to Thello. Route and timetable

The route of the train remained unchanged until December 12, 2004. From that moment on the train no longer runs via the Mont Cenis route but via the Simplon route through Switzerland. The two trains that previously used this route, EN Galilei and the EN Rialto were then lifted. The carriages for Venice were taken by the Stendhal between Paris and Domodossola. Between Domodossola and Venice the carriages are taken by other trains.
