The Flemish Astronomy Olympiade is a competition, an Olympic game, organized in Flanders since 2008. They are organized by the Association for Astronomy (VVS), the Youth Association for Astronomy (JVS), the AU's Department of Astronomy, UGent and the VUB, in collaboration with the Dutch Astronomy Olympiade. The aim is to have young people of the latter secondary synthesize their acquired knowledge of science by answering questions about the universe. Simple physics, chemistry and math knowledge show the youth the functioning of the cosmos.

Contest

The Olympiade consists of two rounds. The first round consists of a combination of multiple choice questions and open questions that can be downloaded from the official internet site. In addition, the five best candidates are invited to draw up an observation proposal by the final day. The main prize is a flight to La Palma, including a night of observation with the Mercatoreelescope. History
