Ben Straatsma

Bernardus Joannes (Ben) Straatsma (Didam, February 14, 1943) is a Dutch politician of the PvdA.

He joined Vredestein in Doetinchem in 1958 and a year later he made the transition to the town of Didam. Since 1967, Straatsma worked for two years in the municipality of Bussum and then worked at the municipality of Blaricum, where he led to general / legal affairs. In 1976 he became the municipal secretary of Hoevelaken and in December 1978 his appointment as Mayor of Berghem. In March 1990, Mayor of Vlijmen became Strasbourg Mayor in the municipality of Heusden on 1 January 1997. On that date he became the mayor of Hilvarenbeek. In June 2001, his appointment as Deputy Mayor of Sluis-Aardenburg followed his stay until January 1, 2003 when that municipality merged with Oostburg to the municipality of Sluis with which his position was terminated. After that he moved to the Achterhoek.

A former official of Sluis-Aardenburg wrote in his book "Many crafts, but hardly any accidents" about Straatsma, among other things, that they did not commit themselves to the interests of Sluis-Aardenburg. In 2007, Straatsma filed a charge for reproach, but the prosecutor in Middelburg found that the writer did not blame himself for blasphemy or reproach and was therefore not prosecuted.
