Kazuo Taoka

Kazuo Taoka (田 岡 一 雄, Taoka Kazuo; Higashimiyoshi, March 28, 1913 - Amagasaki, July 23, 1981) also known as his puma Kuma (bear) was a Japanese criminal. From 1946 until his death in 1981, Taoka was the head (kumicho) of the Yamaguchi-gumi. Under its leadership, the membership increased to 13,000 men and the Yamaguchi gumi was present in 36 of the 47 Japanese prefectures. Murder attack

In July 1978, the killer Kiyoshi Narumi, with a .38 caliber gun Taoka, shot while enjoying a limb dance performance at the Bel Ami nightclub in Kioto. Although Taoka was surrounded by five bodyguards, he was hit in his neck, and managed to escape the assassin. Taoka was driven into his bullet-free Cadillac to the hospital and recovered quickly from his wound. Narumi was a member of the Matsuda syndicate, whose leader was soon murdered by the Yamaguchi gumi. A few weeks after the attack, Narumi's lifeless body was found in the forests near Kobe.
