Ekonte (絵 コ ン テ) is a Japanese term used in animation to define something similar to the storyboard. Its meaning is "graphic continuity" and has a different value than western work methodology since, unlike the storyboard, econo is a substantially fixed work document that returns much more precisely what will be the " definitive animation, scene after scene. Compared to the storyboard, it therefore contains many more details and information, such as number of frames per scene, visual effects and backgrounds needed, shots, camera movements, dynamics and scenes composition, all the data they serve designers and animators to complete their work in less time.

The instrument and the concept of the econo began to take shape in the production of the animated feature Taiyo no Ōji - Horusu no daiboken, produced by Toei Doga in 1968. The importance attributed to econs explains also because in Japan it is widespread to publish them in very curious volumes that often accompany the release of DVDs of the anime they refer to.
