Rooster (firearm)

The rooster is the part of a firearm that makes a striking move when the tractor is pulled over. The rooster strikes directly or through a stroke on a pattern in the chamber with a combustion of the stroke shaft. If the rooster is internal, as with many modern hailers, this is called 'slaughter'. The spring that stretches the cock when the weapon is ready to shave is called 'haanveer' or 'slagveer'. The part that locks the rooster when the weapon is shaken is called 'tumbler'.

The rooster is named after (the head and neck of) the animal. The rooster of the lontslot and the later flint locks appeared strongly here; when it struck down, this seemed like pecking a bird.

Roosters that hit strikers or pins are also called hammer. Also see
