Gyrd e Gnupa

Gyrd and Gnupa were Danish, but of Swedish origin in the first half of the 10th century. They were the children of Swedish Olof the Angryman who had conquered Hedeby's shopping center and most of the Danish islands. According to tradition, Gyrd and Gnupa ruled together, though it seems that Gnupa had more power than his brother.

News on Gyrd and Gnupa derives from Adam Bremen's accounts and Sigtrygg Runic Stones:

The Chnuba name also appears in the Cordura Widukind's Res gestae Saxonicae as a Danish king defeated and forced to receive baptism in 934, while Olav Tryggvasson's saga in Heimskringla reports defeat Gnupa by Gorm the Old Man in the Year 910. Notemodify wikitesto Voices correlateemodify wikitesto
