The Dean debuted in April 1926 as defender in the first team of Antwerp FC in the home game against Beerschot VAC and soon acquired a base. Also, brothers Bob, Frans and Albert played at Antwerp. With the team De Deken became twice international champion (1929 and 1931) and ended three times second (1930, 1932 and 1933).

The suspended players set up the "Antwerp Boys", a team that went to play in the Flemish Football Association. With the alternate team De Deken became four times successive champion of this bond. In 1941 De Deken decided to stop playing football.

Between 1930 and 1933, De Deken 11 played competitions with the Belgian football team. His first match played at the World Cup in 1930 in Uruguay. The Deken was also in the pre-selection of the team that participated in the Amsterdam Olympics Summer Games in Amsterdam but he did not play any matches.
