Johann Gottfried Rode

Johann Gottfried Rode (Kirchscheidungen, February 25, 1797 - Potsdam, January 8, 1857) was a German composer, military chaplain and hornist. Lifecycle

Red was promoted as a very good hornist in 1817 to "staborn" of the Prussian Guard Hunters Battalion in Potsdam. During this time he studied at the Royal College of Music in Berlin, among other compositions at Karl F. Zelter, and obtained the diploma as "Music Master". From 1827 to 1857 he was the chaplain of the Music Corps of the Garde Jagers Battalion in Potsdam. In 1853, King Frederik Willem IV of Prussia nominated him as "Royal Music Director".

He has committed himself to the characteristic occupation of the German Jagers music corps against the performances of reformer Wilhelm Wieprecht.

Red edited around 3,000 pieces and also wrote some of his own works, including the famous Mars Der Jäger aus Kurpfalz (De Jager from Keurpalts), AM II, 243, which was in Bavaria the parade of all hunter battalions and today is played by the Jagers battalions of the German army (Bundeswehr).
