Holland class (submarine)

The Holland Class was the first submarine class of the Royal Navy, built by Vickers. A company that, after many acquisitions, eventually came to BEA Systems in Rolls-Royce in 2004. The class was built from 1901 to 1903 and the Admiralty of the Royal Navy knew at that time to limit the familiarity of the existence of the Holland class to only a few high officers. This has led to the myth that the Royal Navy was not interested in submarines. On the contrary, true, the Royal Navy saw the submarine as a future potential weapon. Naming

The name of the class has probably been a tribute to Cornelius Drebbel, the Dutch inventor who feed down to Greenwich in 1620 with 12 people under the water surface of the Thames of the Tower of London. Specifications

At the surface the submarine had a maximum speed of 7.5 knots, underwater a maximum speed of 6 knots. The submarine could only carry two torpedo's, with a torpedo tube and a screw engine. Underwater, the submarine had a range of 10 nautical miles above water 235. The Holland class could dive 50 meters deep and had a crew of seven people. Submarines
