Ray Ozzie (November 20, 1955) was Chief Software Architect at Microsoft. He was especially known for his role in creating Lotus Notes.

Ozzie grew up in Chicago, Illinois, later moved to Park Ridge, Illinois, and studied at the Maine South High School since 1973, where he learned to program on a GE-400 mainframe.

He obtained a degree in computer science at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign in 1979, and began a career at Data General Corporation. After leaving Data General, Ozzie worked at Software Arts for Dan Bricklin and Bob Frankston, the creators of VisiCalc. Shortly thereafter, he was recruited by Jonathan Sachs and Mitch Kapor to work with Lotus Development to develop what later became Lotus Symphony. Lotus was taken over by IBM in 1995, Ozzie stayed there for several years before leaving for Groove Networks. Groove was again taken over by Microsoft in 2005, where Ozzie became one of the three Chief Technical Officers.

On June 15, 2006, Ozzie was awarded the role of Chief Software Architect by Bill Gates.

In October 2009, he founded FUSE Labs (derived from FUture Social Experiences, "Future Social Experiences") in order to focus on Microsoft on innovation about future social web experiences. On October 19, 2010, he was known to "spend more time with his family", until that time, he is working on the development of Windows Phone 7. Source
