The great fresco is in the counterfaced facade of the Duomo, to the right of the central portal, surmounted by the Crucifixion and affixed to the left, beyond the portal, by the resurrection of the same author.
Deposition is set within a niche. In the center, the dead body of Christ is lying on an orange cloth in a daring perspective, recalling the dead Christ of Mantegna, one of his ideal masters. In the niche there is a fake mosaic of Venetian ascension, with the figure of the peacock symbolizing the sacrifice and resurrection.
All around are the characters that participate in the lurking, including the Maddalena, which looks upwards, in the center, and Maria, in a swollen blue dress, bent in a sad, but weeping compound. The style is magniloquent, with classic memories and the Roman Renaissance (Michelangelo and Raffaello in primis), enriched by a popular narrative temperament, with remarkable vitality.
