Early English Text Society

The Early English Text Society is an organization that deals with the publication of early English literary texts, especially those available only in manuscript form. Most of the published works are therefore in the Old English and Middle English.

The organization was founded in 1864 by English philologist Frederick James Furnivall. As an objective was given "on the one hand, printing all the most valuable and not yet published manuscripts in English and, on the other hand, editing works that are of great value in the English literature and (again) in print that, due to the limited availability and price not available for the average student. "

The Society is known to have published many English manuscripts, including the Cotton Nero A.x script, including Mr. Gawein and the Green Knight, Patience, Pearl and Cleanness. Also see Externe link
