Kaps was a German piano brand. The Kaps factory in Dresden was founded in 1859 by Ernst Kaps (1826-1887). In 1922 the Ernst Kaps Klavierfabrik AG merged with the company founded in 1874 by Johann Kuhse, and the factory was called Kaps / Kuhse Pianoforte AG from 1925 onwards. Kaps made both pianos and wings. Some years after its foundation, the company acquired the predicate of the supplier of the kingdom of Saxony. In 1865, Kaps was one of the first piano builders to perform the cross-string system originally for pianos developed by Jean Henri Pape. The company obtained patents on various inventions, the most important of which was the 'resonator', a facility to make the sound fuller by strengthening the overtones in particular. In 1876 the company exhibited at the World Exhibition in Philadelphia.

The brand has existed until 1930; the company produced around 40,000 instruments in total. Logo
