Publigas


Publigas (French: Publigaz) is the Belgian municipal holding company in the gas sector, established in 1996 following the privatization of the National Investment Company and by the transformation of the existing Socogas holding company. Publigas shares are divided between the Flemish Region and Flemish Energy Holdings (VEH) intercommunales for 55%. The Walloon Region and Socofe intercommunales have 30%. Those of the Brussels Region represent 15% of the shares.

Publigas itself was until March 2009 for 32.25% owner of the Distrigas and for 45.22% owner of Fluxys. At that time, Distrigas shares were sold to the Italian energy company Eni. Due to this sale, the holding was able to collect 1.5 billion euros. With a portion of the proceeds, Publigas bought additional shares of Fluxys at GDF Suez. As a result, Publigas's interest in Fluxys increased to 51.25%, Publigas immediately had the intended controlling majority. In October 2009, the company decided to divide another part of the 1.5 billion among the participating municipalities. It is an amount of 832 million.

In March 2010 GDF Suez sold its remaining shares in Fluxys to Publigas. As a result, this public holding became 90% owner of Fluxys. The price per share amounted to € 2,350, which resulted in GDF Suez € 636 million in cash.

Today (2011), Publigas owns 99.99% of Fluxys Holding shares, which controls the natural gas carrier Fluxys.
