Royal Belgian Association for the Protection of the Birds

The Royal Belgian Association for the Protection of Birds (KBVBV) is Belgium's oldest national nature conservation association. In the 1930s, this covenant aimed at protecting bird species useful for agriculture. In the 1950s, the covenant successfully promoted the protection of all non-harmful birds, and sought to protect the entire Belgian avifauna from the 1960s. History

The KBVBV was founded in 1922 by markiezin Antonia de Pierre. It was only in the 1960s that the association became truly combatative and knowledgeable and gained greater influence on legislation in Belgium that could protect the bird from uncontrolled hunting and other endangered activities.

In 1979, on the initiative of the association, shelters for birds and wildlife were established and campaigns were conducted against the trade in exotic birds. Furthermore, the association acquired ornithologically valuable natural areas. In April 1996, the Royal Belgian Covenant for the Protection of Birds was divided into three regional sections: Also see
