St. Antonius Church (Oosterhout)

St. Anthony Church in Oosterhout

The Antonius of Paduakerk is a church in Oosterhout located on St. Vincentius Street.

The church was designed by Pierre Cuypers. She was initiated on May 13, 1908.

The brick building is neo-gothic, but still features features of later styles: the windows and the tower are more stylized. The building is a pseudo-pedestrian cross church, with the exception of the entrance to the entrance hall, a four-tower tower with a dome-like protuberance: an eight-sided twisted four-story tower with a spike.

The entrance tower was originally 20 meters high, and barely outstretched the front. There was not enough money to complete it according to design. In 1959 money was collected to increase the tower to 32 meters. The separation line can still be seen.

The organ dates back to 1924 and was manufactured by Vermeulen. The organ was neglected and in 1987 it was labeled as follows: There are dirty and bad sounding pipes, the engine makes noise, there is woodworm. It was restored and could be played again in 1998.

This church will close in 2016. Sources
