Astor Row

Astor row

Astor Row is the name of the 130th Street stretch between Fifth Street and Lenox Avenue in Harlem, New York. The street is characterized by a series of terraced houses, located on the south side, which are among the first residential buildings in the Harlem District, all featuring a small garden facing the entrance and a wooden veranda. These houses were built between 1880 and 1883 at the initiative of William Backhouse Astor in a land that his grandfather John Jacob Astor had acquired in 1844: that's why the street takes its name from their family.
