Luc De Hovre

Luc Alfons De Hovre (Nederbrakel, 27 February 1926 - Heverlee, 4 June 2009) was a Belgian Catholic relief bishop. Lifecycle

Luc De Hovre studied at the Saint Catharina College in Geraardsbergen, then joined the Jesuits in Drongen in 1945 and was appointed priest in 1958. During the last two years of his education (1953-1955) he was a student at the St. Jan Berchmans College in Brussels. He followed Pater Neefs s.j as a choir leader. Under his impetus, the school choir grew to a high level. A record was recorded and the choir was invited for a Christmas concert at the Royal Palace (1956?) And his departure was a hard hit for the choir action. He became director of the Saint Joseph College in Turnhout in 1960 (?). In the tradition of the De Hovre family he particularly focused on music education.

In 1971 he became novice master and in 1975 provincial chief of the Flemish Jesuits. He was also chairman of the group of European provinces for several years. Auxiliary Bishop

In 1982 he was appointed auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Mechelen-Brussels for Brussels, with special attention for the Dutchmen. The Hovre was the captive bishop of Domnach Sechnail (Ireland). He was also an episcopal vicar for the Dutch-speaking male and female religions for several years. He was also chairman of the diocesan commission for the oecums.

In 2002, he reached the emeritus age of 75 and resigned. He spent his last years at his brothers in Heverlee. Externe link
