Slijpsteen van Slenaken

The Slenak Stone of Slenaken is a large stone that lies along the banks of the Dutch River Gulp, just south of Slenaken. The stone is in a wooded area west of the Roebelsbos.

The stone was used in the Neolithicum for polishing flint axes. Although located a few meters above the current Gulp's bed, the Neolithic stone probably lay in or just next to the river, as flint polishing is not only a grindstone but also water. Since then, the Gulp has penetrated deeper into the landscape, so the stone now measures meters of the river.

The stone was discovered by an amateur archaeologist in 1953.

He has been registered by the National Service for Cultural Heritage as National National Monument 46147. Gallery
