Paddy Roy Bates

Paddy Roy Bates (London, August 29, 1921 - Leigh-on-Sea, October 9, 2012) was the self-proclaimed Prince of Sealand, a small unrecognized state in Europe (550 m²). In 1967, he declared his former off-shore military fort, which is outside the territorial waters, independent.

Before Bates cried out to Prince, he was a major in the British Army, after which he was a fisherman and radio pirate. He employed Knock John Tower when he took over Radio City City in 1965 and sent the staff home. He first renamed the station to Radio Essex to bribe to Britain's Better Music Station (BBMS) in October 1966. A few months later, he had to stop broadcasting by the British government. Then he took the Roughs Tower platform. This was actually claimed by Jack Moore and his daughter for Ronan O'Rahilly of Radio Caroline. It came to a small screening between the men and Bates-led by O'Rahilly, the last winner, to hold that position by firing small bombs to the boat in which O'Rahilly's men were found. / p>

The radio station planned by him never came but he decided to stay on the island with his wife. He declared the platform independent in September 1967. Bates and his wife lived on the platform occasionally. Their son Michael, who was fired by the British army because of his father's actions, lives permanently on Sealand.
