Lager (beer)

Lager is the term used for undergrowing beers in Anglo-Saxon countries. Lager is derived from lagern (German for: save).

In the Netherlands, beer is no longer used as an indicator of a beer brewed in the Netherlands. In Germany, the term and the beer species are now lower in English. Lager was a pilgrim with 3.5% alcohol in the Netherlands, comparable to table beer. Lager contains less alcohol and was therefore cheaper and easier to drink.

In Hungary, these beers are called azzok (= lower: the beams on which the barrels are resting in the basement).
