Charles of Nassau Usingen

Karel (Uses, December 31, 1712 - Biebrich, June 21, 1775) was from Nassau-Usingen from 1718 to 1775.

Karel was the oldest (surviving) son of Willem Hendrik I and Charlotte Amalia, daughter of Hendrik van Nassau-Dillenburg.

His father died in 1718 so his mother initially acted on behalf of Karel and his younger brother Willem Hendrik II as regents. He inherited in 1728 his descendant Frederik Lodewijk of Nassau-Ottweiler, the counties Nassau-Ottweiler, Nassau-Idstein, and Nassau-Saarbrücken, which were added to the principality of Nassau-Usingen. He was declared a centuries by Emperor Charles VI in 1734.

Karel divided his country in 1735 with his brother. He himself received the rest as the prince of Nassau-Usingen Usingen, Idstein, Wiesbaden and Lahr, Willem Hendrik II as Nassau-Saarbrücken's Prince.

He moved his residence from Usingen in Taunus to Biebrich (nowadays a suburb of Wiesbaden) and continued his mother's progressive policy.

After his death in 1775 he was succeeded by his eldest son Karel Willem. Marriage and children

On December 26, 1734, he married Christina Wilhelmina of Saxony-Eisenach, daughter of Johan Willem from Saxony-Eisenach. From this marriage, six children were born, including the latter rulers
