Braemar Castle

Braemar Castle

Braemar Castle is a castle near the place Braemar in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. The castle has been accessible to the public since 2008, after being restored and rented by a local charity institution.

Since the late Middle Ages there was a castle owned by Mar's Earls. It replaced the 11th century Childrochit Castle, close by. Braemar Castle was first served in 1628 by a son of John Erskine. It played a part during the revolt of the Jacobites during the 18th century and was ruined in 1748.

At the time of the government of Queen Victoria, the castle was the residence of the laird of the clan Farquharson. He received Queen Victoria in the castle during one of the Braemar gatherings. 57 ° 0 '53 "NB, 3 ° 23' 28" WL
