Hal Clement


Harry Clement Stubbs (Somerville, Massachusetts, May 30, 1922 - Milton, Massachusetts, October 29, 2003), known as the Halcyon pseudonym, was an American science fiction writer, a leader of subgenre hard science fiction.

Clement studied astronomy at Harvard University. During his study, he published his first story Proof, in 1942 in the magazine Astounding Science Fiction.

He was a pilot in World War II and flew 35 combat missions in Europe. He gained the rank of colonel in the Army Air Corps Reserve. Clement studied chemistry at Milton Academy in Milton, Massachusetts for many years.

Clement received recognition in 1998 of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA) with the Nebula Grand Master Award. In 1996, his short story Uncommon Sense received retroactive the Hugo Award for 1946. Bibliography
