Tenkyong Wangpo

Tenkyong Wangpo (? -1642) also Karma Tenkyong (Wangpo) was the last king of Tibet. He originated from the Tsang dynasty ruling over the Tsang region in Tibet. Lifecycle

Tenkyong Wangpo had to deal with violent actions from Ladakh in the west.

In 1641, the Oirat Mongolian leader of Khoshut Mongols Güshri Khan attacked the king of Beri in Kham (eastern Tibet). The king of Beri was a supporter of the prayer religion and was prosecuted by the Tibetan Buddhist lama and was thus not supported by Tenkyong Wangpo.

After this victory, Güshri Khan further conquered Karma Tenkyong, who later got into a bag and drowned. Güshri Khan ruled Tibet for only a few months, then transferred to the fifth dalai lama Ngawang Lobsang Gyatso, after which Tibet became a theocratic state until the invasion of Tibet by the Chinese People's Liberation Army in 1950.
