Daniel Timofte


Daniel Timofte (Lonea, October 1, 1967) is a former Romanian football player, who started working as a football coach after his active career. Most of his domestic football career he played as an attacking midfielder at Dinamo Bucharest, later he also played in Germany and for six years in Turkey. He also played for the Romanian football team and stood on the field during 22 games, in which he scored twice.

In 1990, Timofte (then 22 years old) was present at the World Cup in Italy. In the eighth final against Ireland it was Timofte who played after 120 minutes and after nine rake penalty shootings had to take the final and decisive penalty and missed that which left the World Cup for Romania. When his football career ended in 2000 due to a knee injury, he opened a café called "Penalty" in the town of Petroşani (near his birthplace).
