Haim Alexander

Haim Alexander (Berlin, August 9, 1915 - Jerusalem, March 18, 2012) was a Jewish composer born in Germany. Lifecycle

Alexander left Germany in 1936 to settle in Palestine. He studied at the Berlin Conservatory at Irma and Stefan Wolpe (twelve-tone), with Hanoch Jacoby Hindemith (music theory) and Ilona Vincze (piano). In 1945 he graduated from the Music Academy of Jerusalem, where he later became a lecturer for composition, piano and piano and head of the music theory department. He won various awards for composition, including the "Angel Price". Working

In his early work, Alexander uses many linear harmonies, such as in the opera "Arza" (= "In the Land", which refers to Israel) from 1951. He also wrote works in serial style (according to the compositional methods he uses in Freiburg of Wolfgang Fortner had learned). From that work, the piano brand "Klangfiguren" received the music prize of the Israel Music Institute in 1965. The work was also known as "Six Israeli Dances" for piano (1950), which also includes a version for two pianos. He also wrote chamber music (such as the "Quartet for two flutes, cello and piano" from 1956), moths, choral works, songs, liturgical songs, and a dance work ("Nabut", 1971, a dramatic dance with a major role for the rhythm).
