Yunus Emre-moskee (Almelo)

The Yunus Emre Mosque in Almelo is one of the oldest mosques in the Netherlands. In 1974 he was opened and named after the Turkish sofi poet and mystic Yunus Emre from the late Middle Ages. It is called the White Mosque by local residents.

The building was co-financed by the government, with the support of the now abolished Law on Premium Church Building. The textile company, Ten Cate, also paid for solidarity with the employees. This is also the first mosque that has been licensed to build a minaret in Almelo. In April 2014, the municipality granted permission for the sale of a plot of land of more than 5,800 square meters in the Bellavista Street, where the board would like a new building. In June 2015, the municipality commissioned the destination plan.

Since the rebuilding in 1989, there is room for a thousand believers. 52° 21′ 17″ NB, 6° 39′ 20″ OL
