The VOLMET acronym for French vol météo is a network of radio stations that transmit TAF, SIGMET and METAR weather reports to HF (VWF) and VHF frequencies.

VOLMET messages use an auto voice recorded with the type of USB modulation (upper side band) or J3E. International airplane pilots use these transmissions to determine which procedure to use for descent, approach and landing phases.

The VOLMET network divides the world into specific regions and a single station in a given region transmits weather reports to a specific group of aircraft terminals at a specific time. Each station transmits at a certain time so that it does not interfere with the other VOLMET stations.

Usually transmissions take place at 5 minute intervals and every transmission is repeated every hour. Links externalize the wikitesto
