Harpconcert (Hoddinott)

Alun Hoddinott composed his only Harp concert in 1957 and revised it in 1970. It was originally written for Welshe Harpist Osian Ellis.

Hoddinott chose not to play the harp against the orchestra, but with or with a limited set of instruments, because the harp sounds soon disappeared into a large ensemble like an orchestra. The big orchestra fills up some gaps. The run-up to the slot is also for the full orchestra; the harp is completely missing. In the coda, however, the harp is the boss, with a series of arpeggios, the harp helps the orchestra to the massive chord. Parts Source and discography
