Josef Kolmaš (Těmice (Vysočina), August 6, 1933) is a leading Czech sinologist and tibetologist. study He graduated from Karels University Prague in 1957. He then left for a two-year postgraduate study in Beijing and was the only foreign student to study Tibetan and Tibetan literature. For decades he was a researcher for the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences. From 1994 to 2002 he was a scientist at the Czech Academy of Sciences.
He conducted a wide range of translations and research work on Sino-Tibetan relations and Tibet's history, such as a synopsis of ambassade in Tibet since 1727.
