Son of Radu IV cel Mare of the Drăculeşti dynasty, Radu Bădica, contested the Wallachia throne at Vladislav III Dăneşti who had torn the kingdom to Radu VI's brother-in-law Radu V de la Afumaţi. Sultan Solimano the Magnificent (1520-1566), already ally of Vladislav against Radu V, preferred to freeze the conflict in Wallachia by recognizing both contenders as legitimate sovereigns.
